Rivalry Brewing by Walker Rose
I received a copy of Rivalry Brewing by Walker Rose from NetGalley. This book is the 2nd addition to the Crossroads Ranch series. I enjoyed the first book, Trouble Brewing, so I had to read this one next. This book follows the story of Bowen and Sawyer. Bowen is planning to stay a while in Scandal to help his older brother and their ranch. Sawyer is a vet who helps at the ranch, but at work her now-ex is her boss. Sawyer hates being put in an awkward position and is taunted by her ex and his fiancé; she makes a joke that if they thought Bowen was interested in her, they would hate it and start keeping their distance. Surprisingly, Bowen agrees to this plan in exchange for moving into her spare room.
The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood
The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood is a contemporary romance book with fake dating. Third-year PhD candidate Olive Smith comes up with a fake dating plan that will help her best friend Anh get her happy ever after. In a bid to convince Anh, Olive ends up kissing the first man she sees, Adam Carlson, the hotshot scientist of their department. This kiss leads to Olive and Adam starting to fake-date, but the variables of their little experiment start going out of control. This book has been on my reading list for a year or two; I wanted to watch the movie version first, so there is no disappointment. Now, I loved the movie; that’s why I am even more excited to read this book.
The Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar Allan Poe
The Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar Allan Poe is a horror fiction short story. This story follows a prisoner who faces torments during the Spanish Inquisition. The narrator of the story describes his experiences of being tortured as a prisoner, and it is loosely based on the Peninsular War between Spain and Napoleon-ruled France in the 19th century. I enjoy Poe’s writing; although it might get a little intense, I am extremely intrigued by this story.
