My reading list for the month.
North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell.
I didn’t read North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell last month as I had originally planned. I read Impossible instead and didn’t want to read another historical fiction back to back. The novel is set during the Industrial Revolution in England in a fictional town. I am already a couple of chapters in and so far, although it is slightly slow, it is interesting.
The Cabuliwallah by Rabindranath Tagore.
It’s been a while since I have read Rabindranath Tagore’s works. I came across a copy of short stories written by Tagore and had to pick it up. The Cabuliwallah is a short story about a dry fruit seller, who makes the journey from Kabul to Calcutta to sell dry fruits every year. Originally written in Bengali, the story is set in pre-independent India.
Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
I bought Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez almost eight years ago and now it’s finally off the bookshelf. The novel focuses on the characters of Florentino Ariza and Fermina Daza. These two fall in love in their youth but are separated when Fermina’s father finds out about them. I have always enjoyed reading Marquez’s stories and I am excited to finally start reading this one.
