Books I have added to my TBR this month.
The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak.
The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak is a historical fiction that explores the power of love across two different timelines. The story is set in two timelines: one in the present day and another in the 13th century. In the present day, Ella Rubinstein, a middle-aged housewife in Massachusetts, starts working for a literary agency. She finds an unpublished manuscript that tells the story of the wandering dervish Shams of Tabriz and his spiritual bond with the scholar Rumi. I am extremely excited about this book because of the parallel timelines and poetic elements.
The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden.
The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden is a psychological thriller. It follows a young woman who is a recently released convict, Millie Calloway, and she is desperate to escape her past. She is hired as a live-in housemaid for a beautiful Long Island mansion owned by the wealthy Winchester family. It seems like a break she wants, then she realises that her attic bedroom only locks from the outside. I don’t read thrillers very often, but this book has been popping up on my Amazon KU as a book I might like, so I read the blurb, and it seems interesting.
50 World’s Greatest Horror Stories.
50 World’s Greatest Horror Stories is a compilation of various authors. This horror short story collection has classic masterpieces like Edgar Allan Poe, Dostoevsky, etc. I have a soft spot for short story collections, but I am not a huge fan of horror stories. The writers in this collection are the second reason for me choosing this book for my TBR.
