My reading list for the month of October.

A Ship of Bones and Teeth by Karina Halle.

I received a copy of A Ship of Bones and Teeth by Karina Halle from NetGalley. This fantasy romance book is a dark retelling of The Little Mermaid. Princess Maren, a mermaid, in her innocence and naivety, made a deal with a sea witch to become human and marry the prince, Aerik. A decade later, she is suffering the consequences of her decision that made her life hell. She sees an opportunity to reclaim her old life when she and her husband are kidnapped by a group of pirates led by Captain Ramsay “Bones” Battista. Bones, too, has a score to settle with the sea witch, leading to a truce of sorts between Maren and him. I am intrigued by the story and can’t wait to read it.

The Courage to be Disliked by Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga.

The Courage to be Disliked by Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga is a non fiction book. The book talks about a Japanese phenomenon that aims to teach us simple lessons we can use to liberate ourselves. The book draws on psychological theories to help us understand and unlock the power to become our truest selves. Guest contributor, Falguni Panchamatia, will be reviewing this non fiction self help book.

Cat in the Rain by Ernest Hemingway

Cat in the Rain by Ernest Hemingway is a short story. This story follows an American couple on a vacation in Italy. They are stuck in their hotel room, which faces the sea as well as a public park and a war monument, because of constant rain. The wife sees a cat trying to protect itself from the rain and decides to rescue it. I enjoy reading Hemingway’s stories, so it is easy to pick any of the short stories.
