I received a copy of the fake dating romance novel The Best Wrong Move by Lily Parker from NetGalley. After a failed live proposal, Olivia goes viral online. Deciding to take a break and focus on writing, she rents a townhouse in Hawaii, where she meets the owner, Dom. With her ex-boyfriend living next door with his new girlfriend; Olivia and Dom decide to pretend to date.
The story begins with Olivia aka Liv getting rejected on live television by her live-in boyfriend when she proposes to him. This moment goes viral online. The producer who suggested this idea in the first place asks Liv to take a sabbatical from the news station. Wanting a clean break, Liv decides to rent an Airbnb in Hawaii to focus on writing her script. Sadly, Liv ends up in the townhouse next to her ex and his new girlfriend. This odd situation makes her brave choice seem unbearable. She contemplates simply going back to New York City, then she meets the owner, Dom.
There is a clear pull between Liv and Dom from the start. They are attracted to each other. To save face, Liv and Dom decide on fake dating to show her ex that she has moved on. Once they start spending time together, the lines between fake dating and reality start blurring. Liv feels like she can be herself around Dom, actually enjoying her time in this new place and living in the moment. Dom encourages her ambitions and understands her, although he holds his cards closer to his chest. Rightly so, after everything, Liv feels a little lost, but this vacation is helping her find herself. Liv and Dom finally give in to their attraction and pull; deciding to give this thing between them a chance.
This story has characters that keep you hooked from the start. Liv is kind of an underdog in the beginning. It is nice to see her character blossom. She is quite relatable at times, like when she admits she always did things because she thought it was the right time to do them. Dom, on the other hand, is understanding and fun to be around. There are some things he is hiding. When he tells Liv about his past and why he is in Hawaii, you can understand his reasons for hiding certain things. Liv and Dom together have amazing chemistry. I loved how their romantic arc turned out. Although, I didn’t like the last conflict between them because it seemed a little forced. Everything else about them together was a joy to read. I liked how they discussed and talked about things to understand each other better. This also helped them open up again after bad past experiences. The side characters are interesting, helping the story move ahead.
The Best Wrong Move by Lily Parker is a fun and light fake dating romance book. The story maintains a nice pace; it faltered a little at the end for me. I was hooked throughout because I wanted to know how things ended up for Liv and Dom. I enjoyed reading the book. It was a fun and interesting story.
