Twisted Hate by Ana Huang is the third book of the Twisted series. I really enjoyed reading Twisted Love and Twisted Games, so I was extremely excited to read the next book in the series. Twisted Hate follows the story of Jules and Josh. It is an enemies-to-lovers romance book that judging by previous books, will be an interesting, romantic, and spicy story with something unexpected in it.
Josh and Jules’s characters have been introduced in the first book itself. Josh is Ava’s brother and Jules is one of her best friends, both these characters had minor roles in the last two books, but there is still so much we don’t know about these characters. Josh and Jules spend time around each other only because of Ava and their other friends. They don’t like each other or even get along. Jules gets on Josh’s nerves because he thinks she is trouble and irresponsible, basically getting his sister into trouble. Jules thinks that Josh is self-righteous and thinks highly of himself. For Ava’s sake, Josh and Jules decide to go on a vacation with her and Alex, where they end up having to share a room.
Once they come back from their vacation, tensions between them are higher than before but now, it is a sexual tension. Jules and Josh recognize this simmering attraction and tension between them, but they have reservations about each other. They end up agreeing to become enemies with benefits because they aren’t really friends. The spicy scenes start quite early in this book but the spicy romance is very well done. Slowly, as they spend time together, they start past their opinions about one another. They still bicker, but now, there is also an understanding between them.
Jules has been a bit of an enigma because you don’t know much about her from previous books. She has worked really hard to free herself from her difficult past but it comes knocking back. Josh idolized his father growing up, so after finding out his truth, there is a lot of resentment. He is torn between the father he loved growing up and the reality of him similar to Jules being torn between her past and the present. There is a constant pull and push within themselves that they don’t know how to resolve. Jules is surprised about Josh’s understanding, and the comfort her provides her when dealing with her past. They can be themselves around each other. Their relationship develops quite naturally from physical attraction to understanding and then to love. The part where they are separated also makes sense, Jules knows she has broken something between them and takes accountability.
Ana Huang’s Twisted Hate was a great addition to the Twisted series. I didn’t know what to expect from Josh and Jules’s story, but it was such an enjoyable read. The enemies-to-lovers trope is done really well and I loved Jules’s story because it was completely unexpected for me. Twisted Hate has romance, spicy romance, interesting characters, and returning characters that add to the story. I liked reading this book and can’t wait to read the fourth one.
