I added quite a few books to my TBR pile this month. It’s a mix of classic books and contemporary books. I realized that I hadn’t read classics in a while. So, I am going to start adding more of them to my TBR.
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne.
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne has been sitting on my bookshelf for at least a decade. The novel is set in a Puritan Massachusetts Colony in 17th century America. The story follows Hester Prynne, a girl who gives birth to a child out of wedlock. There is no particular reason I haven’t read it yet. So I am putting it officially on my TBR in hopes that I’ll get to it soon.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
I feel guilty even acknowledging that I have not read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. This romantic regency novel explores the lives of the Bennet family in the early 19th century. I feel like I already know so much about Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, but not the whole story. I have a copy of this book, and for whatever reason, I simply haven’t picked it up. I am extremely curious about this book because I have heard great reviews of it. But I am going to keep my expectations in check when I read it.
Meditations by Marcus Aurelius.
I have read snippets of Marcus Aurelius over the years. Meditations by Marcus Aurelias are his personal writings. I am intrigued to read more of his thoughts and philosophies. Another fascinating aspect of choosing this book is that it was written during the Roman Empire. Generally, I don’t tend to pick up non-fiction or philosophy books, because it takes a long time to finish them. I am very interested to see this one through.
Shadow of Night and The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness.
I read the first book of the paranormal fantasy series of All Souls Trilogy, A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness last year. I enjoyed reading it. But due to other books (NetGalley Lists), so I had to push the series on a back burner. Shadow of Night is the second book that has a historical twist with fantasy. It follows Diana and Matthew’s story exactly from where we left it in the first book. The Book of Life is the last book of the All Souls trilogy that will bring Dianna and Matthew’s story to what I hope is an epic conclusion.
