Book Review: Twisted Games (Ana Huang).

Twisted Games by Ana Huang is the second book of the Twisted series. It is a contemporary romance book. Twisted Games follows the story of Princess Bridget von Ascheberg and her bodyguard, Rhys Larsen. These characters were introduced in Twisted Love, so I was intrigued by them and was looking forward to reading their story.

Twisted Games begins when Bridget is a college student and then follows her as she goes back to her royal duties. Bridget is a princess, and she picked a college in America so that, she gets some space from all the eyes. Her bodyguard is returning to her home country, and Rhys Larsen is his replacement. Bridget was friends with her previous bodyguard, but Rhys is not concerned with playing nice. He is overbearing about her security, which leads to them clashing with each other. Bridget and Rhys slowly come to a compromise where they don’t fight each other’s every move. They develop an understanding and trust over time. There is definitely chemistry between Rhys and Bridget from the get-go, and it is palpable as you are reading it.

Rhys and Bridget’s romance is a slow burn I feel. They spend a lot of time around each other before giving in to their attraction the first time. Their romance happens very organically, which I love, and they have good communication between them. Rhys is drawn to Bridget, but he knows that she is his client and there is a stark difference between their lives. Even when they are together, he knows not to expect too much. There is a forbidden romance aspect to Ana Huang’s Twisted Games. As a royal, Bridget cannot be with any person she chooses; there are rules she must follow. She is aware of her duties but she can’t stay away from Rhys. Their chemistry is undeniable, and they have some spicy scenes together.

Bridget is such an interesting character. She is level-headed and sensible. Her decision always comes from a sense of responsibility towards others or her duties. Despite being a princess, she is not snobbish and has a gentle way about her. Rhys, on the other hand, is a broody and no-nonsense kind of a person. He can be blunt, but he is honest. I loved Rhys’s character. You can understand why he is the way he is when you find out more about his life. He has extremely clear motivations about everything he does except when it comes to Bridget. Rhys and Bridget know that their relationship has an expiration date because of their differences in status, but they are drawn together. I like how they fight for their relationship, individually and together.

I loved reading Twisted Games by Ana Huang. Bridget and Rhys’s romance is so engaging and steamy; they make sense together. I also liked getting glimpses of Ava and Alex in the book. Twisted Games has tropes that I enjoy – forbidden romance, bodyguard, and opposites attract. I enjoyed reading this book a little more than the first one. I can’t wait to read the next book of the Twisted series.
