I received a copy of Knight of the Goddess by Briar Boleyn from NetGalley. Knight of the Goddess is the fourth and final book of the Blood of the Fae Series by Briar Boleyn. This dark fantasy romance series with an Arthurian retelling twist with Fae has been an amazing ride so far. I loved reading the first three books – Queen of Roses, Court of Claws, and Empress of Fae and I couldn’t wait to delve into the final book. Knight of the Goddess picks up a few days after the events of the third book.
Morgan and Draven are together in Camelot after defeating Arthur. They have taken the responsibility of Medra, Morgan’s niece. Draven has immediately taken to her and that is given considering his past. There is finally peace in Pendrath because the final battle is looming. They know they need to destroy the Excalibur, the grail, and the spear to defeat their ultimate enemy, Morgan’s father. This book kind of reminds me of the first book as Morgan and Draven with a few of their friends set off on a quest to defeat the enemy. I can’t discuss much about the plot because it has a lot of spoilers.
Briar Boleyn has given us a lot of happy and together Draven and Morgan in this book. This is the strongest Draven and Morgan’s relationship has been in the series. Their characters are at their peak with their physical capabilities too. We get to see Draven’s magic in its full form during the action scenes. Morgan has started to accept her powers but still is a little unsure about them. Morgan constantly feels guilty about the suffering of her people and her loved ones because of her father, who wants her to come back with him. The fae mythology of the series is also expanded in this book, giving many answers.
I loved the romance between Morgan and Draven. Morgan starts off hesitant about her feelings towards Draven in the previous books but now, their bond is on another level. Draven’s need to protect Morgan is his main motivation in the book. He can’t lose his mate. They communicate and talk about everything, building an understanding and complete trust. So, their romance is at its peak which I have been waiting for since the first book. Their characters have come a long way as a couple as well as individuals. They have gone through so much, it is heartening to see them have someone they love and trust abundantly.
Knight of the Goddess by Briar Boleyn brings a lot of loose threads together. The fantasy world becomes more layered and the mythology is expanded in a way that matches the unanswered questions. The minor characters too play an important role. The narration shifts from Morgan to Draven and surprisingly to Medra (Morgan’s niece). This fantasy story doesn’t have happy endings for everyone. The stakes were high and not everyone made it out alive which I don’t like. But it makes sense for the story. I am happy that Morgan and Draven end up together. I had a few issues with the pacing of the book. It’s slow to start with but then moves too fast towards the end.
Knight of the Goddess by Briar Boleyn is a fitting end to the Blood of the Fae series. We get most of the loose ends tied, not the way I imagined but it gives closure. Morgan and Draven’s relationship and characters are such a big plus. Knight of the Goddess is the perfect blend of fantasy and romance. I have loved reading this series. Blood of the Fae series is the first Fae book series I have read. I loved reading it.
