Book Review: The Sweetest Oblivion (Danielle Lori).

The Sweetest Oblivion by Danielle Lori is a dark romance novel. The book is the first of Daniella Lori’s Made series. This mafia romance has been on my TBR for a while, and I am glad I finally read it. The story of The Sweetest Oblivion follows Elena Abelli and Nicolas Russo aka Nico.

Elena Abelli is a kind and soft-hearted person in a world that is the opposite. A mafia princess nicknamed sweet Abelli, Elena is struggling to navigate the world around her. Nicolas Russo is a powerful man betrothed to Elena’s younger sister. Elena knows her sister feels obligated to accept, and Nicolas is doing it for his gain. Elena feels guilty because this arrangement has fallen to her sister instead of her because she made some mistakes in the past.

Elena and Nico are wary of each other when they first meet. Elena knows Nicolas is doing this for power and that he doesn’t care about her sister. Nicolas and Elena keep coming into each other’s proximity by chance and choice. There is a clear attraction between them, but he is engaged to her sister. Bringing a forbidden aspect to their fascination with each other. They are drawn to each other, and Elena is a lot more careful about it than Nico. Danielle Lori has used dual POV in the book. So, from the beginning, we get the story from Elena, as well as Nico’s side. I think this helped the narrative of the story a lot.

Once the stories of Nicolas and Elena’s past are revealed, you understand their action in the present so much better. Nicolas doesn’t hide his interest in Elena as well as he thinks he does. When there is an opportunity to force Elena’s father to let Elena take the place of her sister in the marriage arrangement, he makes sure it is done. Nico ends up being such an interesting character, and how he is with Elena is just the sweetest. They start to understand each other better as they spend more time together. Elena and Nicolas’s romance is intense; it is not very dark but there are some triggers.

The Sweetest Oblivion by Danielle Lori is a dark mafia romance that totally lived up to my expectations. I enjoyed the way Elena and Nico’s romance builds up. The story has its spicy moments, which are really good. I liked the character arcs for Elena and Nico, and how they come to full circle by the end. I am excited to read the next two books of the Made series.
