This is the third part of my favorite book quotes blog series. It’s been a couple of years since I compiled the second part, and I have read many amazing books since then. Choosing which quotes I really liked ended up being more about the context of them in the story. I like quotes that fit the story and characters so completely, especially in their given situation. Here are a few of my favorite book quotes –
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by F. Scott Fitzgerald
This quote in general resonated with me because I think it is very true to reality. The character of Benjamin Button has a difficult life because he has to navigate a world he doesn’t even understand or know. He ages in reverse, so he is an old man instead of an infant, but he is pushed into the world all the same. I feel the quote kind of shows the arc of his growth and coming into his own.
The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde
The Canterville Ghost is one of my favorite stories by Oscar Wilde. It has humor yet depth which this quote proves. The ghost has been playing pranks on the family. It seems like the ghost is carefree, just having fun. It is when he says this we get to see a different side of him and understand how he really feels. It is such a touching moment in an otherwise humorous book.
The Forgotten Bookshop in Paris by Daisy Wood
I am a little partial to historical fiction, but this book surprised me in the best way possible. With its dual timeline intersecting towards the end was unexpected for me. Jacques Duval believes the Nazi invasion of Paris would blow over soon. He keeps his head down and goes through his daily tasks. There comes a moment when he can’t simply wait for the situation to pass; he has to take a stand. This quote marks a shift in his character arc in the story. It is when he accepts this new reality of his life and make choices according to it.
Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn
I read the book waiting for season 3 of the Netflix show. This quote in Romancing Mister Bridgerton is one of my favorites. Penelope has loved Colin without any expectation for so long. Throughout the story, she grows in confidence and becomes sure of herself. She never imagined Colin would return her affections, but when he does, something changes for her.
Holding Up The Universe by Jennifer Niven
I am still in the hangover of this book I think. Holding Up The Universe was such an amazing book and not at all like I had expected it to be. Libby and Jack go through a rollercoaster in the book. One of the main themes of the book is acceptance. I feel this quote makes so much sense in that context. We have to accept our old world and create a new one. The past cannot be erased, but moving ahead becomes easier through acceptance of the past.
These quotes stuck out to me while reading because they fit the story extremely well. I believe there are many more quotes I missed mentioning here from the last two years. But these are the ones that came to my mind sooner. I will get to others soon enough in future posts.
