My reading list for the month of June.
Her Dark Enchantments by Rosalyn Briar.
I received a copy of Her Dark Enchantments by Rosalyn Briar from NetGalley. The book is a fantasy paranormal romance and a retelling of the origins of Maleficent. The story focuses on Myravelle Spinner, a lonely fairy who has been brought up in captivity. She becomes the healer in King’s Sleepy Wood company, where she needs a canvas to awaken soldiers fallen into a cursed sleep. Her new canvas is Byzarien, a soldier in Sleepy Wood who thinks of Myravelle as a spider. The book being a retelling and fantasy, was a huge draw for me. I am just a couple of chapters in, and so far, it’s keeping me interested.
The Gift of the Magi by O’Henry.
I love O’Henry’s short stories, with The Last Leaf being one of my favorite short stories of all time. The Gift of the Magi is the story of a young husband and wife who want to buy Christmas gifts for each other in secret but have very little money. I read this story years ago in an English textbook. I don’t remember much about it. So, I am excited to read this one.
Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks.
I am in the mood to read a Nicholas Sparks novel. Message in a Bottle tells the story of a journalist Theresa Osborne and Garrett. While on vacation, she finds a bottle with a letter in it on the beach. The letter is addressed to Catherine by Garrett. Intrigued by the romantic letter, Theresa sets out on solving the mystery of who this Garrett is. I expect this story to be sweet, romantic, and even sad. In general, I am fascinated with the idea of finding a message in a bottle on the beach as a plot point.
